The
Chronicles of Ny: An episodic adventure
The
Chronicles of Ny is a fantasy role-playing game. It is a sprawling
story that takes place in a frontier province of the Great
Kingdom of Ny. The experience of the game will reveal to you
a world full of tangible people, terrible villains, evil monsters,
grand and petty nobles, spectacular and haunted locations,
deep and storied histories, conflict, intrigue and mystery.
You will become the hero or heroine who enters this world
and combats the dark forces that would destroy it. You will
lead those that follow you into danger and fight your way
through any who would stop you from taking your place as part
of the Legend of Ny.
This is a game based on the concept of the serial. Each adventure
will be self-contained with a start point and an end point,
but common threads and plot lines will link them all. There
will be a story for each adventure, for each three stories
there will be a conclusion and the final adventure will tie
all the stories together. For anyone who has played adventure
series modules, they will be familiar with this theme. Our
game will not try to fill 200 hours of game play into one
enormous game, but instead will seek to provide 10 to 15 hours
of play with each episode. If you follow the adventure all
the way through, you will have a massive game, but with easily
definable pauses in the story. Each game will remember where
you left off and what has come before will matter in the games
that follow. If you do start further into the story –
on episode three or six for example– then some configuration
of a start point will be provided, with a back-story to provide
context for your adventure.
Each of the episodes will add onto a fully developed world
and each adventure will take you to a new location, expanding
your area of play. It will also not forget where you have
been and returning to places and interacting with them again
will be part of the fun. Role-playing is the core of the idea
in this game and will be as important to success as defeating
the monsters, traps, mazes and puzzles that you encounter.
Our dialogue engine is not just another multiple choice quiz
you get to take until you know all the answers, but a one
way path through threading conversation choices that will
effect how you interact with other characters and the world
you find yourself in. Choices made early on will effect what
comes after and will make the story become your story and
not just the same adventure that everyone else has already
had. It will be your adventure.
